In early 1991 a group of Malibu surfers founded the Malibu Boardriders Club (MBC) as a way to provide an energetic vehicle to mesh the surf-culture with other community elements. The club was a strong force within the Coalition of Surfing Clubs for many years and was host to an annual event at Malibu Surfrider Beach known as the Call To The Wall. The MBC also was host to a yearly event at Leo Carrillo State Beach, known as Day At The Beach, in which they collaborated for many years with Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times, providing a unique beach/surf experience for children with cancer and their families. While both events were loved and highly anticipated, they were organized by a small group of people, with little volunteer help as the years went on.
After a pause in the competition schedule due to the pandemic, MBC was allowed to hold an event once again in 2021. With little time to plan the usual 300+ participant club competition, a combination of the Day At The Beach event was fused with a shortboard competition. The following year, with the continued dwindling participation of club members, it was decided that a change was in order. In 2022, Queen Of The Point, the first ever all lady, all longboard competition, was brought to the world famous shores of First Point Malibu. A huge success, the event has become a global phenomenon, empowering and inspiring female surfers of all ages, abilities, creeds, and colors!
